Happy New Year Presents!

If 2022 is anything like 2021, we're in for a very nice treat indeed in CD-i preservation progress! And right now all signs are pointing just to that.

Our archive.org account has recently been loaded with scans of dozens and dozens of rare CD-i discs - including early "Prototype" discs, many Euro variants, and Demonstration Discs - brought to you by CD-i Fan, an anonymous donor, and yours truly:

In the past few days, we've had dozens of rare discs added to redump.org & archive.org, and dozens more already in queue for the redump mods to add:

Rare discs have been poured in at a rapid rate this past year, so fast that it's almost easy to take it for granted. Looking back at 2021 - I want to pay homage to our preservation brethren as well as our enablers. Thank you for your fantastic contributions to preservation in 2021: KailoKrya, Landcross, Blazers, rosewood, CD-i Fan, Jackal, UnlockerPT, omegalfa, Bart at the Home Computer Museum, Steep Haywire, diego, retaliator, Hiccup, and LoStraniero. Spank me if I've forgotten anyone else! Happy New Year everyone!

Looking to 2022
Progress will continue from existing projects-in-motion, and we should expect many more rare treats ahead.

But we can use help with a couple things in particular:
  • We need more dumpers! Especially in Europe. People who are willing to buy and properly dump variants especially.
  • We need rare disc lenders! People who own rare discs that can lend them out for dumping if they don't want to dump themselves.
  • Demonstration Discs / Pre-Production Discs: If you can dump them for us great, but I'm willing to trade / buy if you have them! I've been furiously working on a catalog this past year of such discs and want to continue my research.
Please reach out to me if you can lend a hand.

Another Preproduction Photo Dump

I'm in the midst of re-organizing a "Non-Redump" set for Philips CD-i and in the process I've accumulated a hefty set of images - largely from Hidden Palace - of CD-i preproduction discs. I'm publishing this collection here for reference purposes, all credits to Hidden Palace for these images (except The Apprentice and Digital Video 1.01)!

Home Computer Museum - Pics of the Philips Disc Cache

CD-i Fan was kind enough to share his cache of Philips-related photos from the Home Computer Museum with us - an amazing resource of visual documentation for the packaging of many very rare discs. icdia.co.uk has additional photos and a list of contents to help guide you through the photos seen below (along with a lot of other neat stuff)!

This massive drop of photos includes many discs dumped by redump.org preservationists on location at the museum. Surely this will be one of Preserve CD-i's best posts and I've put comparatively little effort into it!
